The Wright family are 'overwhelmed by sadness' at the death of Nanny Pat
The much-loved star, who appeared alongside her fellow members of the Wright family in the hit show, died after a short illness.
A statement released this morning confirmed the sad news and included some touching words about Nanny Pat from her loved ones.
‘Sadly our amazing, courageous and beautiful Nanny Pat passed away this morning after a short illness,’ it reads.
‘We are overwhelmed by sadness, and the whole family ask for privacy at this horrible time.’
It comes just a month after the TV star celebrated her 80th birthday on screen in TOWIE, where she was joined by family and friends at a royal wedding-themed party.
Lovable Nanny Pat was a mum to five children, 14 grandchildren and six great granchildren.
Her daughter Carol starred alongside her in TOWIE, as did grandchildren Mark Wright and Jessica Wright.
She became known for her funny one-liners during her time on the show and her love of baking.
Nanny Pat, whose real name was Patricia Brooker, became a regular member of the TOWIE cast during the second series and was always hugely popular with viewers.
The London-born star wrote two books after finding fame on the hit show, which detailed her early life growing up in the East End as well as her time as a pub landlady.
During her 80th birthday celebrations last month Nanny Pat got emotional about her late husband Charles Brooker when she was presented with a photo of him from granddaughter Jessica.
‘He’s everywhere,’ she joked before adding: ‘Thank you, Jess. That’s really lovely.’
The scenes sparked an equally touching response from viewers, with many admitting they’d shed tears after seeing Nanny Pat’s reaction to the special present.
