Girls Aloud star Sarah Harding reveals how finding a mole on her leg in 2012 led her to re-evaluate her life
Finding a growth on her left calf was a real wake-up call.
‘We were on a shoot in Tuscany and one of my management team noticed it,’ Sarah, 32, tells us.
‘I had this dark spot on my leg that was really annoying me and she said I should get it looked at.
‘I went to a skin specialist and she said it was better to be safe than sorry, so it was removed.
‘It was a bit daunting at the time because you build up all sorts of things in your head about it and you’re like: “Oh my God.”
‘I’d say it definitely made me more wary about sun exposure and protecting myself. Plus, the sun’s very ageing.’
Now Sarah makes sure she uses high-factor suntan lotion.
‘Always, especially on my face,’ she says.
‘I tend to put more fake tan on my face than the rest of my body – I don’t have the patience to lie out in the sun on holiday anyway. I’d much rather sit in the pool on a step or in the shade and read a book.
‘My boyfriend [DJ Mark Foster] just lies there and sizzles until beads of sweat roll down his forehead and that doesn’t even look relaxing! What’s the point of going on holiday if you’re not relaxing?’
Now‘s teamed up with Superdrug Solait to promote safe tanning using high-factor sun creams or fake tans to create your summer glow. We’re taking our campaign on the road and visiting four city beaches around the UK this summer, so please join us for fun, frolics and free stuff!
