Jade Defoe passes away following head injury

The half-brother of footballer Jermain Defoe has died after he was assaulted in east London.

Jade Defoe, 26, went into a coma after the attack in Leytonstone last Monday.

He died on Friday from a head injury, a post-mortem confirms.

‘We do not believe a weapon was used during the assault,’ says a Metropolitan Police spokesman.

‘We retain an open mind as to any motive and inquiries continue to establish the full circumstances of the incident.’

A 28-year-old man has been bailed on suspicion of perverting the course of justice in connection with the investigation.

Jermain, 26, pulled out of Tottenham Hotspurs’ match against Manchester United on Saturday.
