Zayn Malik's former boss Simon Cowell had a few stern words for the former One Direction star
As many an X Factor reject knows, Simon Cowell can be pretty harsh when it comes to cutting you down to size.
And now Zayn Malik has been on the receiving end of his former boss’s sharp tongue, as the music mogul blasted the ex-One Direction star following comments he made about his time in the band – saying he left so he could make ‘real music’ for a change.
Labelling Zayn’s comments as ‘rude’, Simon laid into the former boyband star, saying: ‘I think once he has had a chance to reflect on everything he will probably reconsider what he’s said because it was a very, very democratic process in the band.
‘It is a bit rude to the people who wrote all the hits with them. And to the other band members. I mean they all wrote a lot of the stuff.’
Simon added: ‘Life could have been a lot worse, right?’
Si went on to say that he doesn’t spend much time thinking about Zayn now that he’s no longer in One Direction, as the remaining four members – Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson – were his priority after Zayn’s shock departure.
‘To be honest I don’t even think about it too much because as soon as he left we sorted him out with a label who really were enthusiastic about him and then my loyalty was back with the boys,’ he said.
Zayn revealed he wasn’t down with 1D’s musical vibe in his first interview since leaving the band back in March.
Speaking to The Fader, the Bradford-born claimed his attempts to add his personal touch to their music were always scuppered.
‘There was never any room for me to experiment creatively in the band,’ he said.
‘If I would sing a hook or a verse slightly R&B, or slightly myself, it would always be recorded 50 times until there was a straight version that was pop, generic as f***, so they could use that version.’
He added: ‘There was just a general conception that the management already had of what they want for the band, and I just wasn’t convinced with what we were selling.’
Take us back to the good old days when Si and Zayn were pals!
