Anita Rani, who presents Countryfile, says she's going to channel Beyonce on Strictly Come Dancing

The 11th Strictly Come Dancing contestant was announced last night as Countryfile presenter Anita Rani. She joined Matt Baker and Alex Jones on The One Show and announced she’d was swapping fields for the foxtrot.

‘So many elements of Strictly terrify me,’ Anita, 38, said. ‘But I shall try and think “Beyonce, Always On Beat” as I hit the dance floor.’

Given Anita’s colourful media career so far, we’re sure she’ll get the hang of it! Here’s what else you need to know about her.

1. She presented her first radio show at 14
Anita knew ever since she was a teenager that she wanted to get into broadcasting. She bagged herself a show at 14 on a local station in Bradford, where she grew up. Now, that’s what we call ambition!

2. She’s had a very varied career
She currently presents Countryfile, but she hasn’t always been traipsing around fields in the name of TV. She started her career as a researcher at the BBC and went on to present a huge array of programmes, from satirical current affairs show The State We’re In on BBC3 and Asian arts show Desi DNA, to Four Rooms, an antiques and collectibles show, and Watchdog. Strictly should be a walk in the park after all that!

3. She’ll try anything once
While presenting China On Four Wheels, a documentary where she drove across China, she made an effort to try every local delicacy – including sea cucumber. She told an interviewer afterwards that she tried it, but her ‘body rejected it’. Gross!

4. Strictly isn’t her first celebrity reality show
in 2012, Anita appeared on Sport Relief’s Celebrity Bake Off. And she won!

5. She’s politically minded
During the Election back in May, Anita was one of a host of celebrities including Sir Mick Jagger, Dame Judi Dench and Sir David Attenborough, who signed a letter to Scotland urging them not to vote for independence.

Joining Anita and Jay under the mirrorball are Peter Andre, Ainsley Harriott, Jeremy Vine, Katie Derham, Daniel O’Donnell, Georgia May Foote, Kellie Bright, Carol Kirkwood and Anthony Ogogo.

We can’t wait to see who’s next!
