This might just be the strangest story you read today...

Remember THAT epic selfie which saw Ellen DeGeneres pull all of Hollywood’s finest into the same pic at the Oscars in 2014 and basically break the Internet?

Course you do. The famous snap even beat former President of the United States Of America, Barack Obama‘s previous record for the most retweets EVER – with a massive 3,420,237.

And with the likes of Jennifer Lawrence, Channing Tatum, Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Kevin Spacey, Bradley Cooper, Brad Pitt AND Angelina Jolie (to name a few), we’d expect nothing less…

Ellen wasn’t lying when she captioned it: ‘Best photo ever.’

So we definitely didn’t expect a 16-year-old school-boy from Nevada to go and beat the amazing selfie to become the most popular tweets of all time with a massive 3.5million RT’s (over 100,000 more than Ellen)!

Yup. Carter Wilkerson shot to fame earlier this month after he tweeted fast food restaurant Wendys in an attempt to score a years supply of free chicken nuggets.

Tweeting the American fast food joint, the teenager said: ‘Yo @Wendys how many retweets for a year of free chicken nuggets?’

But when Carter got a shocking reply of ’18 million’ the story went viral within a matter of hours and now has over 3.2million retweets! Just. Look.

And if his online fame wasn’t enough, the young boy has now had a hashtag, t-shirts and even an emoji made in his quest for endless amounts of ‘nugs’ – with all proceeds going to charity.

Impressive, right?

But there’s one woman who isn’t so impressed with Carter’s overnight fame – and that’s his Twitter rival, Ellen as she invited the teenager onto The Ellen Show last week to hash out who’s the most successful social media star.

Despite enlisting the help of pal, Bradley Cooper to make a video begging their fans to keep them at the top spot, now Carter has gone and smashed her record. WOW!

He may not have gained the RT’s demanded by Wendy’s, but who cares? Carter’s managed to raise a load of money for charity and is only a few (14) million away from a years supply of chicken nuggets.

We believe in you, Carter!
