The Crimson Field actress, Suranne Jones, ties the knot in a low key ceremony attended by just a few witnesses
Television star Suranne Jones has secretly married her magazine editor fiancé in front of just a few witnesses.
The Crimson Field actress got engaged to Laurence Akers who is ten years her senior last summer after a six-week ‘whirlwind romance’.
But according to the Sun newspaper, Suranne – who found fame as Coronation Street‘s Karen McDonald – tied the knot with the 46-year-old in a private intimate ceremony at Islington Town Hall.
A source close to the star told the newspaper: ‘Suranne is very private and not the type of person to have her wedding in a magazine or on social media.
‘The nuptials were very hastily arranged with nothing too fancy. But it was intimate and romantic, and both the bride and groom were very happy.’
Suranne met Laurence, who works as an editor for Nikon Pro magazine and a hotel travel magazine, last year.
The speed of their engagement shocked fans as the acclaimed actress had insisted she was on the hunt for Mr. Right just weeks before accepting his proposal.
She said: ‘I’m still single. You don’t want to be single for ever.
‘But also, once you have your own life, your partner has to be someone very special because life is so busy. If that person isn’t right for you, don’t settle for second best.’
Speaking at the beginning of her thirties, the Manchester-born star revealed she wanted the decade to be about ‘marriage, kids and great acting opportunities.’
Her last relationship before meeting Akers was with plumber Lorenzo Giove. They broke up in 2010.
Speaking after the split, Suranne told the Daily Mirror: ‘We’re both very sad and upset.
‘There is no one else involved, but unfortunately the relationship has just run its course. It just wasn’t meant to be.
‘Deciding to end a relationship is never easy but we both felt this was for the best.’
Suranne has also been linked to Coronation Street’s Jonathan Wrather and EastEnders Marc Bannerman.
