Singer Robbie Williams says temporary Take That name change inspired new sound

Robbie Williams has revealed that Take That were going to call themselves The English when they reunited as a five-piece.

The singer says bandmates Gary Barlow, Howard Donald, Jason Orange and Mark Owen wanted to mix things up.

But instead the boys decide to change their sound rather than the group’s name.

‘I think the initial idea of not being called Take That freed Gary up,’ Robbie, 36, tells Q.

Take That‘s new album Progress is out on 22 November.

It features less ballads and more experimentation with an electronic pop sound.
