Chanelle Hayes tells Now how she went from a size 14 to a size 8 in 10 months
What a transformation! Chanelle Hayes has lost 4st since the last time we did a shoot with her – and she’s buzzing with energy.
Despite saying she was happy with her curves, she was actually medically obese. After finding out her BMI of 30.6 meant she was at risk of diabetes, Chanelle, who’s mum to son Blakely, four, decided to give up her daily pizza takeaways and hit the gym earlier this year.
And we can’t believe the results!
Showing off her new size 8 figure in our exclusive photoshoot, 26- year-old Chanelle tells us all her weight-loss secrets…
Chanelle, your bum’s amazing!
When I saw the picture for the back of my calendar, I was like: ‘Oh my God, is that my bum?!’ It’s my favourite picture I’ve ever seen. I saw the original pictures and they’re hardly airbrushed at all – just a bit of teeth whitening – whereas last year I was getting inches cut off me.
How can we get a bum like yours?
It’s all down to squats, lunges and my healthy diet. I’ll squat around 60-80kg about 10 times and repeat it four times, so I do 40 squats all together. Then I’ll do Bulgarian split squats, which is just a really fancy name for a lunge – I don’t know why they just don’t call it ‘a lunge’.
Does Blakely notice the difference in you?
He’s so cheeky! Now, when I put a dress on, he says: ‘Mummy, you look like such a beautiful princess.’ He notices everything. We were looking at pictures from his third birthday party in August 2013 and he said: ‘Mummy, you look quite fat in these, don’t you? Your bottom looks fat, you’ve got a tummy in this picture. Is that before you went to the gym and got healthy?’
Last December, you told us you’d discovered you were at ‘genuine risk’ of getting type 2 diabetes and starting to get symptoms. How did you feel back then?
I’m a completely different person now and I prefer this person. I’d get anxious about so many different things. I’d always feel so self-conscious about my arms and even in the summer I’d cover them up – and I’d never go on nights out. People would invite me, but I’d never go or be in any photos. I’d say I felt comfortable in my skin and sexy with my size, but I didn’t realise how unhappy I was. I wouldn’t want to be that weight again.
Do you feel happier now?
I’m so much more chilled out and carefree. I’ve learnt to accept myself and be happy with how I look. I know I’ll never be a Victoria’s Secret model and I’ll always have cellulite, but I’m fine with that. I now see my friends more and I have a night out with them once a week, which I just love.
‘What I eat…’
‘I didn’t have a routine. I’d rarely eat breakfast and I’d have chocolate, crisps and fizzy drinks throughout the day. I’d have a takeaway pizza almost every night.’
‘I’m having a lot of calories – I have nearly 2,000 a day. I eat loads.’
