Primary school teacher Joe Waller had quit The X Factor before his audition was aired
After he performed his own composition Stay, Rita thanked him for ‘making my eyes light up’ and he was promptly put through to boot camp.
But there’s bad news for Joe’s new legions of fans – the primary school teacher had already quit the show before his audition was aired.
According to The Mirror, Joe wrote a post on one of his social media accounts, which appears to have now been deleted, explaining the situation.
‘Although I made the choice to not continue in the programme because I felt it was the best thing for my career at the time, they have decided to air my audition… even though I chose to leave,’ he wrote.
He also tweeted his new number one fan, Rita Ora, in the run-up to yesterday’s show.
We know, we know, not seeing Joe’s lovely face on our screens every Saturday night will make the X Factor a darker place indeed, but his audition seems to have won him plenty of new listeners, and he couldn’t resist taking a celebratory selfie.
Aside from his teaching career, Joe’s also a regular on the local gigging circuit – his Facebook page reveals he’s recently played a number of small festivals and released an EP called Circles. He seems a little overwhelmed by his new fandom, though.
Joe might not be part of the X Factor any more, but we reckon we haven’t seen the last of him. Keep it up, Joe – we miss you already!
