The show’s choreographer wasn’t keen on the Cheryl, Rita Ora and Nick Grimshaw line-up…
But choreographer Brian Friedman remembers when Cheryl, Rita Ora and Nick Grimshaw occupied the seats next to Simon – and to say he wasn’t impressed with them would be an understatement.
Speaking to Now at the Disney Store’s Christmas party, Brian says: ‘I think this make up of judges works well together. I like them better than what I saw last year.
‘The judges last year didn’t have history and chemistry. When you don’t have history. It’s hard to create chemistry, but I really enjoy this panel. They all know what they’re doing and they understand the game.’
It’s not just the judges Brian is impressed with this year – he also thinks the talent among the contestants is huge. And, although he doesn’t have favourites, he has got a soft spot for Finnish Saara Aalto.
‘I love Saara because not only does she sound incredible but she’s an amazing performer,’ he says. ‘When everybody was focused on her wig, I was focused on the fact she sang perfectly upside down! I love Matt Terry’s voice when he has the right song, the same with Emily Middlemas. The whole show is song dependant.’
When it comes to controversial rapper Honey G, Brian would be totally on board if she won the show. He adds: ‘It’s called The X Factor. I think it’s about who the public wants to give the prize to.’
