He might have gone solo but Zayn Malik is still keeping tabs on One Direction

One Direction sent fans into meltdown with the surprise release of their new single Drag Me Down on Friday and it’s also caught the attention of someone they know very well.

Zayn Malik has listened to the track, which is the first tune his former bandmates have brought out as a four-piece following his departure in March, and he took to Twitter to share his opinion with fans.

Now you might think that 22-year-old Zayn wouldn’t be that crazy about it, given that he appeared to make a slight dig at 1D’s songs when he announced his intention to make ‘#realmusic’ with his new solo deal last week.

But the Bradford-born star actually posted a rather adorable response to the tune in which he praised Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan.

Awww, Zayn! It’s good to know that the 1D friendship is still alive and well!

Fans were thrilled to see the sweet message Zayn sent in praise of Drag Me Down and the post has been re-Tweeted nearly 400,000 times as things stand. Woah.

‘awww i’m so glad you love it to,’ one follower commented on Zayn’s Tweet.

Another wrote: ‘yes zayn they are your boys so happy you tweeted this ’

The unexpected release of One Direction’s brand new tune came shortly after Zayn announced that he’d signed his first solo record deal with RCA Records.

It looks like Zayn has been celebrating since the news was made public too. A few hours after his 1D Tweet the singer shared a photo with some friends who he’s been hanging out with in America and they seem to be having a good time.

When he left the band in March Perrie Edwards’ fiancé initially claimed that he wanted to be a ‘normal 22-year-old who is able to relax and have some private time out of the spotlight.’

Despite the shock of his departure, Zayn’s bandmates vowed to carry on as a foursome and said in a statement that they’d remain pals with him.

‘We’re really sad to see Zayn go, but we totally respect his decision and send him all our love for the future,’ the One Direction lads revealed.

‘The past five years have been beyond amazing – we’ve gone through so much together, so we will always be friends.

‘The four of us will now continue. We’re looking forward to recording the new album and seeing all the fans on the next stage of the world tour.’

We’re happy to see that the boys are sticking to their friendship vow!
