Gwyneth Paltrow's mum is pleased that her daughter and Chris Martin have an 'extraordinary' relationship. They're not the only ex-couple to remain friends

When some people break up, they’d rather eat their own eyeballs than have to spend time with their exes.

But for some celebs, their former partner is their their BFF. This morning on ITV’s Lorraine, Gwyneth Paltrow‘s mum Blythe Danner, 73 was gushing about the ‘extraordinary relationship’ her daughter has with Chris Martin since their ‘conscious uncoupling’, which is probably the fluffiest term for a break-up we’ve ever heard.

‘They have this extraordinary relationship. The kids come first, they’re supportive of one another and this isn’t just “la-di-da” positive, this is absolutely true,’ said Blythe. She went on to describe how they spend the holidays as a family and ‘make it work so well’. In the March issue of Glamour, Gwyneth, 43, talked about having sleepovers with Chris, 38, and described him as being ‘like a brother’.

She isn’t the only A-lister to have stayed on friendly terms with her ex. Liz Hurley is famously chummy with her former beau Hugh Grant – with their close friendship even being blamed for her recent break-up with Shane Warne. Earlier this month on the Australian version of I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!, Shane revealed that Hugh would stay over at the home he shared with Liz while he was away.

Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner are another ex-couple who can’t stop hanging out. Since they split last June amid claims Ben had cheated with the nanny, they’ve been seen together at their holiday home and at theme parks with their children – although they’ve become as famous for looking miserable in each other’s company as they have for being BF-exes.

Being friends with an ex isn’t always easy, but it seems to be something of a trend among celebs. Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom have recently rekindled a friendship after he was rushed to hospital following a drug overdose, while Miranda Kerr and Orlando Bloom are on friendly terms for the sake of their son, Flynn.
