The stars we've lost this year
2012 was sadly a year that brought many tragic celebrity deaths.
Amongst those who lost their lives was Kerry McGregor. Born on 30 October 1974, she became a wheelchair user after falling out of a tree aged 13 but later found fame on the 2006 series of The X Factor.
She died aged 37 on 4 January after a battle with bladder cancer.
Other stars who passed away in January included presenter Bob Holness, singer Etta James and actor James Farentino.
One of the most shocking celebrity deaths of the year was Whitney Houston’s untimely passing. The legendary singer and actress, born on 6 August 1963, died on 11 February at the age of 48.
Fellow musicians Adam Yauch, Donna Summer and Robin Gibb died in May.
June saw the loss of actresses Kathryn Joosten and Caroline John, while When Harry Met Sally… screenwriter Nora Ephron passed away from pneumonia.
There were several sad celebrity deaths in July. Actors Eric Sykes, Simon Ward and Geoffrey Hughes were amongst those who lost their lives.
British film director Tony Scott, best known for films such as Top Gun and Days Of Thunder, tragically died aged 68 on 19 August after jumping off the Vincent Thomas Bridge in LA.
American astronaut Neil Armstrong, the first person to walk on the moon, also passed away in August aged 82 following complications from heart surgery.
In September, stars including actor Michael Clarke Duncan, presenter Terry Nutkins and singer Andy Williams sadly died.
Dutch actress Sylvia Kristel, who starred as a sexually promiscuous housewife in the soft porn film series Emmanuelle between 1974-1993, lost her fight with cancer aged 60 in November.
Coronation Street favourite Bill Tarmey and Dallas legend Larry Hagman both died in November. Celebrity deaths in December included astronomer Sir Patrick Moore and singer Fontella Bass.
