We delve into what happened next for the teen heartthrob from Neighbours

Golden boy

Neighbours has been home to some real teenage heart-throbs throughout the years, and none is less deserving of the title than hunky blonde Jesse Spencer, 36, who played Erinsborough High student Billy Kennedy between 1994 and 2000. We fawned over floppy-haired Billy – and got emotional over his romance with Anne Wilkinson (Brooke Satchwell).

One of the originals
Neighbours would be nothing without the Kennedy family. Arriving on screens in 1994 after they bought a house on Ramsay Street at auction, the clan have been the epicenter of storylines ever since. And Billy’s best mate was Toadfish (Ryan Moloney), who’s still in Neighbours 23 years on.

Home sweet home
After Jesse finished his time on Neighbours, he moved to the UK for a change of scene – but revealed that he sadly had to leave London when he was offered a recurring role on House. He said: “It took me a couple of years to settle in [London] – to make friends and build relationships. And then all of a sudden I’ve left and moved to another country and all the seed sowing I’ve done – I don’t get to reap the full harvest.”

Moving on up
However House was a good choice for Jesse. The Golden Globe-winning medical drama propelled Jesse from soap star to Hollywood star. Jesse became so pally with cast member Hugh Laurie that they ended up in a covers band together called Band From TV – which Desperate Housewives star Teri Hatcher is the lead singer in.

New challenges
House finished in 2012, but by 2014 Jesse was offered a role in Chicago Fire as a firefighter. He’s also starred in two spin-off series of the show, Chicago P.D. and Chicago Med. He’s also revealed that in his new life as a Hollywood hotshot, he still catches up with the old Neighbours cast from time to time. He said: “Jackie Woodburne, who plays Susan Kennedy, came to LA a couple of months ago and we had dinner. [And] hang out with [Holly Valance] occasionally.” Jesse, you’ll always be Billy Kennedy to us…
