Asda has created a line based on Carole Middleton's style

Kate Middleton is such a style icon that sales of a £22 beige mac in Asda’s George range soared by 300 per cent after the Duchess was seen wearing a £650 Burberry version.

Now the supermarket are hoping for the same success with a range of clothing inspired by the wardrobe of Kate’s mother Carole Middleton, 57.

‘While much is made of the Kate-effect, Carole has also started to emerge as a style icon in her own right,’ says George’s Brand Director Fiona Lambert.

‘Her clothes always have a fashion forward element, whether it’s a print, a bold colour or a fabric.’

The Asda range includes a £28 quilted jacket inspired by a sleeveless version Carole wore while at the Festival of British Eventing in Gloucestershire with daughter Kate in 2005.

‘A woman over 40 can still be age appropriate and fashionable in her own right,’ says Fiona.

Carole Middleton is someone who always really gets it right for her age.’
