Down with trousers and in with culottes!

Is it hot? Is it cold? Why are we so sticky on the tube?!

Can’t handle the heat? Tell us about it! We’re confused about whether we’re dressing for July or a chilly Autumn! Whatever the weather, it’s playing havoc with our outfits and lives… kind of.

Enter the trusty culotte! You might think that you can’t pull it off but trust us, this cheeky trouser alternative will be your wardrobe hero.

There’s no escaping it either – it’s everywhere! In different fabrics, prints and colours! It’s the perfect alternative to the jumpsuit this summer and perfect for holidays and weddings if you don’t fancy wearing a dress or skirt.

Culottes – we may associate them with being a Brownie back in the 90s but they are going to be your go-to trouser to see you through the seasons. If you’re a shorter girl, don’t be put off and think they’re going to give you stumpy legs! Accessorise with a nude court shoe to elongate your legs! If you’re a taller girl and worried that they won’t have the desired length on your calf, no worries! You’ll be lucky enough to either pop on a heel or a trainer shoe for a chic transition from day to night.

With relaxed tailoring always being a current catwalk trend, it’s no wonder they’re the hero piece of the season and a winner for any transitional wardrobe. Easy enough to wear and add the effortless edge you’ve been looking for.

Fashionistas like Victoria Beckham and model of the moment, Gigi Hadid have been spotted out and about working the culotte.

Top tips for styling out a pair of culottes?

  1. Treat it like a skirt – it’s a similar shape to the a-line skirt and it only has that middle seam to stop you from flashing your pants in the wind circa Marilyn Monroe!
  2. Get your best foot forward – show off your best, jazziest shoes! Only if you can walk in them though – We don’t want any accidents! Pick a trainer or flat for simple day to day wear and rock out your brightest print pair for the evening! We’ve got your legs out for a reason!
  3. You shouldn’t only wear them when it’s hot – They are the transitional trouser after all! Wear a pair higher on your hips and tuck in a roll neck jumper or pop on a pair ofknee high boots and rock those model-esque legs you’ve worked all year for!
  4. Nod to the Nomcores – keep it cool and casual and treat your culottes like a staple pair of skinny jeans. Slogan tees, plain sweaters and crisp shirts with neutral tones.
