Paddy and dance partner Nico Espinosa dazzled on BGT

Britain’s Got Talent viewers were wowed by salsa dancers Paddy Jones and Nico Espinosa on Saturday night’s show.

Simon Cowell initially called the a pair ‘a bit weird’ but ended up apologising after they dazzled with their energetic routine, which saw Nico, 40, spin Paddy, 79, around and lift her up.

Amanda Holden was so impressed she pressed the new golden buzzer for them, which lets judges send an act straight through to the semi-finals.

Each member of the panel is only allowed to use the golden buzzer once.

Unfortunately for Nico and great-grandmother Paddy – who’s from Stourbridge, West Midlands but now lives in Valencia, Spain – their triumph has caused a bit of controversy.

They won a Spanish programme called Tu Si Que Vales in 2009, leading some to question whether they’d been headhunted by Britain’s Got Talent bosses.

But Paddy has hit back by telling Mail Online that she and Nico entered the contest for the ‘pleasure of being able to dance’ and that people ‘go in for all sorts of competitions’.

‘None of the judging panel knew of Paddy before her audition,’ a BGT spokesman tells Metro.

‘Her act was a complete surprise to them all.’
