District 3 are still in the competition

Melanie Masson became the second person to be voted off The X Factor last night.

The Scottish singer lost out to boy band District 3 when the judges’ vote went to deadlock.

Melanie, 44, sang Stay With Me by Duffy in the sing-off after host Dermot O’Leary announced the bottom two.

Three-piece group District 3 performed a rendition of Bryan AdamsEverything I Do.

Melanie‘s mentor Gary Barlow and judge Nicole Scherzinger chose to save the mum-of-two, with Nicole commenting that she ‘felt how much she wanted it’ in her performance.

But Louis voted for his act District 3, along with Tulisa Contostavlos.

It was then revealed that Melanie had received the least public votes and was out of the competition.

‘I’ve absolutely enjoyed every single second of being here,’ said Melanie.

‘It’s just been the best experience and I’ve loved every minute of it.’
