Tom - played by actor Allen Leech - is set to find love after the death of his wife on Downton Abbey

A new romance will be heating up the next series of Downton Abbey.

Allen Leech – who plays ex-chaffeur Tom Branson – was spotted chatting and laughing to newcomer Daisy Lewis as she filmed her first scenes as his live-in nanny and governess yesterday.

The pair’s cosy encounter on set in Bampton, Oxfordshire has sparked rumours that Tom has found love after the death of his on-screen wife.

The former chaffeur was left devastated when Lady Sybil Branson – portrayed by Jessica Brown Findlay – died from eclampsia shortly after giving birth to their baby girl last year.

If she’s watching from beyond the grave, Sybil will be heartbroken to know she’s been replaced in Tom‘s affections by a pretty newcomer.

Daisy, 28, has previously had small roles in Doctor Who and is now expected to become one of Downton‘s leading ladies.

‘She wowed producers in her audition. They are delighted to have secured such a brilliant young actress,’ a source tells the Daily Mail.

‘Her romance with Tom will be one of the main storylines of the series. He will begin to develop feelings for her and they start a secret affair.’
