The contestant has a panic attack

X Factor finalist James Arthur was treated by paramedics for a panic attack after his rendition of Mary J Blige‘s No More Drama on Saturday night’s show.

The singer’s worried mentor Nicole Scherzinger and fellow contestant Rylan Clark helped James into an ambulance outside the studio when he fell ill.

‘I had an anxiety attack last night,’ said James, 24, yesterday.

‘Maybe because I gave everything I had to my performance.’

Paramedics decided there was no need to take James to hospital but X Factor bosses ordered him to skip rehearsals for last night’s results show and he only appeared briefly during the contestants’ opening song.

They’re concerned that the tattooed guitarist – who admits to going ‘off the rails’ at school and sleeping rough after his parents split up – is struggling with the pressure of the competition.

‘He insisted on doing it but it was a very much a blink and you miss him performance with other acts taking priority,’ a source tells the Daily Mirror.

‘We will monitor him this week and hopefully he will be better come next weekend.’
