Robbie makes a controversial statement

Robbie Williams has been showing his love for X Factor contestant Rylan Clark.

The singer wants Rylan, 24, to have a successful career in the media industry despite admitting he’s not the most credible act on the show.

‘I think there’s, like, four contestants on there [The X Factor] with a good chance of being proper, proper artists to sell proper, proper records,’ says Robbie, 38.

‘Then there’s Rylan, who I just want in my life in whatever shape or form that might be.

‘Whether that’s in the jungle with Ant And Dec later this year, or on
Celebrity Big Brother
, or whether he busts out this electronic dance
album… I’m down for Rylan. I love him.’

Robbie has been a fan of Rylan for a while – he blogged about him before last weekend’s show and shouted out ‘Vote Rylan!’ when he performed on Saturday night’s programme.

He’s likely to have annoyed Take That band mate Gary Barlow with his antics, as Gary, 41, openly dislikes the Essex lad.

‘Wherever he [Rylan] wants to be, I’ll be watching it,’ Robbie tells Capital FM.

‘And I think Gary‘s wrong about him.’
