Rylan will sing again next week

Carolynne Poole became the first person to be voted off The X Factor last night.

The singer lost out to Rylan Clark after Louis Walsh controversially took the judges’ decision to deadlock.

Nicole Scherzinger chose her act Rylan while Gary Barlow and Tulisa Contostavlos went for Carolynne, leaving Louis with the deciding vote.

The judge had initially chosen to save Carolynne, 32, but changed his mind after host Dermot O’Leary asked him to confirm his choice.

Rylan, 23, had received the most votes from the public – meaning Carolynne had to go home.

Her furious mentor Gary, 41, stormed off the stage, calling the decision an ‘absolute joke’.

And some incensed viewers claimed the whole thing was a fix after spotting a producer whispering to Louis, 60, while Carolynne was still in the middle of her sing-off performance.

‘Producers always speak to judges at intermittent times throughout the show,’ says a spokesman.

Carolynne had the least public votes so the public’s choice to stay in the show was Rylan.’
