Actor emotional when he thinks about leaving show

David Tennant was reduced to tears when he found out how he’d leave Doctor Who.

His character has to die and then regenerate so he can be replaced as the Time Lord by Matt Smith, 26, at the end of the year.

‘We’re on these final scripts now, which are huge and epic and sad and brilliant,’ says David.

Asked about reading about his last scenes, he admits: ‘I might have had a little cry.’

‘It was quite a big deal really. I sort of turned the phone off and made sure I could read it straight through without too much interruption.’

And David, 37, anticipates there will be more blubbing before he leaves the show for good.

‘The last day, of course, isn’t the last scenes as filming is now always out of schedule,’ he tells the Daily Record. ‘So I don’t know if I’ll be sadder on the last day or filming the final scenes.’

Doctor Who special Planet Of The Dead airs on BBC1 on Saturday.
