EastEnders' Danny Dyer might have a hard man reputation but actress daughter Dani says he's 'so sensitive'
Danny Dyer has played plenty of tough cockney characters in his time but behind closed doors he’s apparently a big softie.
The 37-year-old actor, who plays pub landlord Mick Carter in EastEnders, loves spending time with his family when he’s not working. Danny‘s eldest daughter Dani has revealed that her dad is actually so sensitive that he started sobbing over, erm, a Miley Cyrus film.
‘People have got this image of my dad, and they’ve got it so wrong,’ says Dani, 18. ‘He plays gangsters and hard men, but he’s a complete pussycat.
‘He’s so sensitive, you wouldn’t believe it. If I have a problem, he’s the first one I turn to. And if I ever start crying, he gets totally choked up.
‘There was one time he started crying over the Miley Cyrus movie. He was begging me not to tell anyone about that. Sorry, Dad.’
Hmmm, we bet Danny will be thrilled that you’ve let the cat out of the bag, Dani… Not.
Dani, who has followed her dad into the acting world, doesn’t get into any rows with Danny as she knows he would get upset.
‘I don’t think me and Dad have ever had one argument,’ she says. ‘If I did shout at him, it would hurt him too much.’
Bless! Danny – who also has daughter Sunnie and son Arty with partner Joanne Mas – is often offended by criticism he receives in the press. Luckily Joanne steps in to boost his confidence.
‘It’s a bit like that when we read things in the papers,’ explains Dani. ‘It does hurt him.
‘It also hurts Mum. If he thinks people are laughing at him, he wants to disappear, but Mum won’t let him.’
After years of playing tough guys, Danny gets to show his softer side as EastEnders‘ Mick Carter and Dani thinks it suits him.
‘Getting EastEnders was perfect for Dad, because his character in it, Mick Carter, is him,’ she tells The Sunday Times Magazine.
‘He likes to play the alpha male, but he’s a sensitive, caring family man who don’t mind walking about the house in a pink dressing gown.’
