The comic hits back at the haters

Ricky Gervais is weathering the storm well after his quips about A-listers at the Golden Globe Awards caused controversy.

Though he took a pop at celebrities including Angelina Jolie and Robert Downey Jr, Ricky denies he offended Hollywood’s elite and dismisses suggestions he was reprimanded for his behaviour.

‘The rumour that the organisers stopped me going out on stage for an hour is rubbish,’ he says on his official blog.

‘These are all the same conspiracy theories as last year too…

‘”Paul McCartney was furious,” – No he wasn’t!

‘And nor was Tim Allen and Tom Hanks. I was drinking with them after.

‘Why do people have to embellish?’

The 49-year old comic, who is not interested in hosting the Golden Globes again, is glad he’s been supported by many fans – including other comedians.

‘It’s nice to be loved by your peers,’ he says, ‘they stick by you.’
