Olympic athelete Victoria wasn't a confident teenager

Victoria Pendleton was one of Team GB’s biggest Olympic success stories.

But Victoria’s revealed that the scandal caused by her relationship with coach Scott Gardner at the Beijing Games in 2008 left her so distraught that she resorted to self-harming.

‘I didn’t want to kill myself. I wanted to feel something different,’ explains Victoria.

‘Self-harming was the one thing that I could control.

‘But I won’t go back to doing that.’

Having since retired from cycling, Victoria, 31, admits her commitment to sport left her with body insecurities as a teenager.

‘I used to look at my older sister’s magazines and want curves like supermodels had,’ she reveals.

‘I hated the way I looked so much.

‘I had big thighs and a muscly top half – I just thought my body was out of proportion.’

Now that’s behind her, Victoria is busy with Strictly and planning her wedding to Scott.

She says wearing girly outfits for Strictly photo shoots has ‘kept me sane’.

‘My style icon is Dita Von Teese,’ she adds.

‘She always looks so timeless.’
