After graduating with a degree in Journalism, Lydia started her career working for teen magazines at the BBC where ‘work’ incredibly involved interviewing pop stars and styling photo-shoots. Eventually her passion for food and travel overtook celebrities and she became lifestyle director for a number of high profile magazines, being highly commended for her work as a section editor at the PPA New Talent Awards.

Lydia prefers slow travel, really getting into the soul of a place, always taking buses or trains over a short flight where possible. At 19, she took her first solo trip to Guatemala, Belize and Mexico and has gone on to explore parts of 48 countries, returning to many often. She seems to have an obsession with countries ending in ‘a’ – Bolivia, Cambodia, India and Guatemala are just a few of her favourites.

At 23, she quit her job and travelled out of a backpack for a year, living on just £20 a day. Of the 15 countries she visited, 13 were explored by land in a bid to cut her carbon footprint. Some highlights from the trip include a teaching by the Dalai Lama in the foothills of the Himalayas, sleeping on the world’s largest salt flat, Salar de Uyuni in Bolivia, and being completely awe-struck by the magnificent Iguazu Falls on the Argentinia-Brazil border.

In 2015 Lydia travelled solo through India and Nepal for three months, completing the Annapurna Base Camp trek and reaching a height of 4,130 meters.

She’s happiest when hunting out great food while wearing flip flops, preferably somewhere hot.
