Lovely Ed Sheeran's childhood pal Amy Wadge 'never has to worry about money again' after the pair penned Thinking Out Loud together when she was having money problems

There’s a new item to add to the Ways In Which Ed Sheeran Is The Nicest Person EVER list after the singer revealed the brilliant way in which he helped pay off a friend’s mortgage.

The ginger-haired star – who hosted the MTV EMAs in Milan last night – revealed how he wrote hit song Thinking Out Loud with his childhood pal Amy Wadge after she came to him when she was having money problems.

Lovely Ed told The Mirror: ‘She was going through financial troubles about a year ago.

‘She drove to my house – my album was nearly done – and she asked if I could put a song from when I was 17 on the deluxe album, so she could get a little bit of money and pay the mortgage and bills and stuff.

‘While she was there, we wrote Thinking Out Loud. Now she never has to worry about money again.’

And that’s because Thinking Out Loud went on to become one of the biggest hits of last year, topping the charts around the world.

It has since gone 3 x Platinum in the UK, and currently holds the record as the most streamed song on Spotify, with over 500 million streams. Not bad for an afternoon’s work!

Ed – who recently revealed he’s taking a nine month break from music (SOB) – added: ‘She’s got a family and two kids and stuff and every time I speak to her, she’s going on holiday. It’s really nice to see.

‘It wouldn’t have happened if she hadn’t come down from Wales to see me.’

We bet singer-songwriter Amy – who’s also penned songs for the likes of Geri Halliwell and Ben Haenow – has bought Ed a pint or two to say thank you!

Of course, it’s not the first time the Ripped Jeans singer has proved he’s the nicest man in music.

Just last week, loveable Ed headed to his hometown of Framlingham in Suffolk to visit Mills Meadow Care Home where he opened a new suite, named The Sheeran Suite (of course).

And then there was that time he gave a young fan the BEST surprise by joining her on stage as she sang Thinking Out Loud at a charity concert.

Oh, Ed – you’re just the BEST.
