Actress Amanda Abbington has been targeted with death threats online
Sherlock star Amanda Abbington has hit back at an online troll targeting her and husband Martin Freeman, who also stars on the show, with death threats online.
The 41-year-old has been forced to call the police after the latest post from the anonymous blogger wrote: ‘Both Martin Freeman and Amanda Abbington are starting to give Benedict Cumberbatch and all his fans a bad name! They seriously just need to shut up and f***ing die already!’
Another chilling post on the blog contained a picture of a baseball bat covered in barbed wire, with the caption: ‘Shall we start prepping for a possible funeral?’
Although the hate-filled blog has now been deleted, the couple are no strangers to online trolls.
A source told The Sun: ‘This is nothing new to them, but they are not prepared to put up with threats on their life.
These messages were incredibly sinister and they are well aware of the obsessive nature of a certain number of Benedict fans. Hopefully whoever is behind this will be caught and prosecuted.’
Rather than dealing with the matter in private, Amanda called out the ‘coward’ herself to her 189,000 Twitter followers.
In a now deleted post, the actress wrote: ‘To the coward who’s since shut this blog down. We’ve already informed the police sweetie. They have all the info.’
Away from the hate, Sherlock isn’t the first show the happily married pair have starred on.
The pair met 15-years-ago on set of Men Only in 2000, and have worked on The debt, The Robinsons and The Good Night together since.
