Ian admits 11 charges

Lostprophets frontman Ian Watkins has pleaded guilty to a series of child sex offences, including the attempted rape of a baby.

The singer, 36, had been due to stand trial at Cardiff Crown Court on 24 charges but yesterday admitted to 11 of them at the last minute.

He pleaded guilty to attempted rape and sexual assault of a child under 13 but denied rape, which was accepted by the prosecution.

Ian
also admitted to three counts of sexual assault involving
children and six involving taking, making or possessing indecent images
of children.

He possessed an extreme pornographic image involving a sex act on an animal.

Ian was charged alongside two mothers, known as Woman A and Woman B.

He’d encouraged Woman B to abuse her own child during a webcam chat after plotting with them in a series of text and internet messages.

The court also heard that Ian and Woman A discussed plans to blow crystal meth smoke into her child’s face at a secret meet-up in a Cardiff hotel.

‘There is no doubt in my mind that Ian Watkins exploited his celebrity status in order to abuse young children,’ says South Wales Police Detective Chief Inspector Peter Doyle.

‘[This is] the most shocking and harrowing child abuse evidence I have ever seen. Today’s outcome ensures the three people responsible have been brought to justice.”

Ian will be sentenced on 18 December.
