The helicopter pilot searches for a missing man in Blackpool

Prince William spent New Year’s Eve searching for a missing man in his RAF helicopter while Kate Middleton relaxed at home with her parents in Berkshire.

William was called out from his base in Anglesey, Wales at around 2am after the man was swept into waves off the coast of Blackpool just after midnight.

The Duke, 30, joined lifeboat crews, police and coastguard units to battle 50mph winds in his Sea King chopper before he stood down 90 minutes later.

William had enjoyed Christmas with pregnant Kate, 30, and her family at their Bucklebury home before returning to Anglesey for work on Sunday.

Sadly, the missing man – who was believed to have been walking his dog with a friend – wasn’t found after a second search the next day.

‘We must presume the man went into the water and there is nothing to suggest at this stage that he made it to shore,’ Crosby Coastguard station watch manager Stuart Atkinson tells the Daily Record.

‘We are now in the process of searching the shoreline for a body.’
