NOW PROMOTION Get a pal to set you up on Macmillan's My Mate Your Date

There’s no couple more loved-up than Mark Wright and Michelle Keegan.

Ex-TOWIE hunk Mark, 27, proposed to Coronation Street‘s Michelle, 26, after a whirlwind nine-month romance last year and they’re planning to wed in 2015.

Smitten Mark has described his stunning wife-to-be as his ‘rock’ and ‘the one’.

Mark and Michelle were lucky enough to meet on holiday in Dubai – but love mentor Elizabeth Sullivan reckons one of the best ways to find happiness like theirs is through a pal.

Elizabeth is supporting new dating website My Mate Your Date, which gets single people to invite friends who’ll suggest dates for them through Facebook.

Over a 30-day period the single person reviews their potential dates and requests introductions to anyone they’re interested in.

It’s free to sign up so instead of paying a usual subscription fee participants can decide the amount they want to pay per date suggested and all the money raised will go to Macmillan Cancer Support.

By giving to such a good cause, Macmillan hopes supporters will have that warm and fuzzy feeling before the dating has even begun!

‘We all know that finding the right person to have a relationship with can be an arduous task – particularly against the backdrop of ever increasing schedules and social calendars,’ says Elizabeth.

‘The tradition of setting up friends is centuries old and whilst it’s a proven method, even this gets thrown by the wayside when people are too embarrassed to ask or too busy to play Cupid.

‘Whilst online dating is another great way to meet fellow singles, people often feel nervous about meeting a stranger.

‘That’s why My Mate Your Date is a brilliant concept – it goes back to the traditional method of meeting a partner through friends… with an added feel good factor of knowing you’re giving to charity at the same time.’

Here are Elizabeth‘s tips to choosing the perfect match for your pal:

1. Check they want to be set up – don’t assume people want to meet someone, they might be enjoying being single! Just say: ‘I have someone I think you’d like to meet’ and see what they say.

2. Will they get on? Good places to start are their sense of humour and their attitude to their career. Do they have any common interests? A really simple question people don’t ask is… would the two people in mind like each other?

3. Manage expectations – don’t say it’s the perfect person, rather it’s someone they might find interesting. If they ask questions focus on something they might have in common.

4. No pressure – keep it low key. Don’t discuss it endlessly beforehand. Set them up then see what happens. And don’t over analyse it with them after either – leave them to it!

5. Where to meet? If you’re arranging it think of a relaxed way for them to meet each other – a casual party or drinks with friends. If they want ideas, suggest they do something low-key like a coffee. No movies or long dinners, something shorter is better.

You must be over 18 and signed up with Facebook to take part in My Mate Your Date.

The site is optimised for use on web and mobile devices.
