Harry Styles and co get a few tips
Veteran US pop band New Kids On The Block know what it takes to win over America – so they’ve decided to pass on their best advice to our One Direction boys.
1D have just kicked off their tour with Big Time Rush across the pond – but just because they’re Britain’s favourite guy group, doesn’t mean they’ll be a hit over there.
‘Even though the UK and England are big, it still sort of has a small town feel,’ says NKOTB singer Joey McIntyre, 39.
‘That’s why you guys love your artists so much, but boy bands are so personality driven that sometimes it’s about connecting with that.
‘If the American girls don’t connect with the swagger, it’s hard.’
And Joey reckons the world of pop is very different to that of rock when it comes to impressing audiences.
‘If it’s Coldplay, it’s about the music,’ Joey tells Metro.
‘But the boy band, it’s so much about the personality and energy and I think that’s big.’
