'Don't give up'! Avril Lavigne has spoken about her ongoing battle with the debilitating bacterial infection
In a heartbreaking yet inspiring Instagram post Avril Lavigne has opened up about her battle with Lyme disease.
The Canadian star, who was diagnosed with the bacterial infection last year, shared an update with fans from the doctor’s office as she continued her treatment.
Sharing a picture showing 13 vials of blood (yes 13!) she wrote: ‘On my way to good health #TakingCareOfMyself #F***LymeDisease.’
The singer, who had the hit single Complicated, seemed determined not to let her trip to the doctor get her down though as in the second picture, she posted she’s sat on a doctor’s chair dressed in a pair of jeans and a baseball cap and, more importantly, is smiling.
Later in the day, Avril was having a bit of a reflective moment and posted a snap of her sitting on the beach looking out to sea and wrote: ‘Taking in the majesty of the moment.’
In an interview with Good Morning America in June, the 30-year-old broke down in tears while recalling her battle just to get a proper diagnosis. Avril was bedridden for five months, and has previously said that she thought she ‘was dying’ because of symptoms including not being able to eat, and not being able to talk or move.
‘I was in Los Angeles, literally, like the worst time in my life and I was seeing, like, every specialist and literally, the top doctors, and they were so stupid, and they would pull up their computer and be like, “chronic fatigue syndrome,” or “Why don’t you try to get out of bed Avril, and just play the piano? Are you depressed?”‘ Avril says in tears. ‘This is what they do to a lot of people who have Lyme disease. They don’t have an answer for them so they tell them, like, “You’re crazy.”‘
Avril said at the time that she’s been taking antibiotics and getting lots of rest to combat the disease. She reveals she’s halfway through her treatment, and ‘doing a lot better.’ She is expected to make a 100 percent recovery.
Glad to hear it Avril!
