Late actor recognised for role in Batman flick

Heath Ledger has received an award for his portrayal of The Joker in The Dark Knight.

The late actor, who died from a prescription drugs overdose in January, was honoured at the Australian Film Institute Awards last night.

His sister Katie accepted the gong on his behalf, making reference to Heath’s three-year-old daughter Matilda with ex-fiancée Michelle Williams.

‘It’s been without a doubt the most difficult year, losing such a loved family member,’ Katie told the audience.

‘We are so proud of him and humbly accept this award on behalf of his beautiful daughter, who we will cherish forever.’

It is thought Heath might even win a posthumous Oscar.
