As viewers worry over contestants' extreme weight loss, we look at exactly how many pounds the I'm A Celebrity campmates lost
This year’s I’m A Celebrity contestants sparked concern when tiny jungle rations meant many campmates were losing extreme amounts of weight.
While Melanie Sykes, 44, went from toned to skinny, Michael Buerk, 68, became gaunt, prompting concern from viewers and family.
Despite worries, some campmates were pleased with their loss, including former Playboy model Kendra Wilkinson.
In the past, Kendra has struggled with weight – especially after the birth of her second child, daughter Alijah Mary, in June this year.
‘During my pregnancy, I started at 120lbs and ended up at 175lbs,’ revealed the 29-year-old. ‘I thought I would lose the weight so fast right after having the baby, but I didn’t. I learned the pounds don’t just shed off. You have to go on a diet and really take care of your body.’
Back in September, after four months of dieting and fitness, Kendra admitted she hadn’t quite reached her ideal weight: ‘I’m still getting there. I’m back in my jeans but I’m not at my goals yet. I still have a bit of work to do.’
But since her time in the jungle, on a diet of little more than rice and beans, Kendra lost a whopping 22lbs. ‘I can’t wait to get home and show Hank [Kendra‘s husband] my new body and my new confidence. I want to get back to a lot of sex – I’m due that. I’m going to jump all over him.’
Edwina Currie‘s feeling all flustered over her new slimmed down bod too, revealing she also couldn’t wait to show off her body, almost a stone lighter, to husband John Jones. ‘My husband knew this body when it weighed even less,’ she said to the Metro newspaper.
But for other I’m A Celeb contestants, the weight loss hasn’t been quite so positive.
Michael Buerk lost 8kgs during his time in the jungle – more than 17lbs: ‘I wasn’t concerned about losing weight because I do a lot of exercising at home. I am reasonably trim and I don’t eat too much really. I thought I’d be fine…. To be honest, I didn’t have a lot to lose in the first place.’
Meanwhile, Melanie Sykes was struggling with losing her strength, after we saw her muscles deteriorate during her time in the jungle where she lost a stone.
‘I can’t even walk up the stairs without getting out of breath and my legs hurting, and I’m strong. I didn’t think I’d have this little food. I just wanna go now,’ she admitted.
Jimmy Bullard lost 6kgs (despite being voted out first), Vicki Michelle lost a stone, Nadia Forde lost half a stone, Tinchy Stryder lost a stone and once muscular Jake Quickenden lost 10kg – though, of course, still looked fit. Mmm.
