The former supermodel has been through quite an ordeal
Janice Dickinson has opened up her traumatic ordeal following her diagnosis with breast cancer.
The 61-year-old star revealed during an appearance on ITV’s This Morning today that she’s thankfully now cancer-free after going through six weeks of radiation but really struggled to deal with it all at times.
She also worried about how it might affect her children Nathan and Savannah, as well as her fiance Dr Robert Gerner.
‘In the beginning I was in a state of numbness,’ said Janice. ‘I was truly – not denial or pity – but I just walked around feeling kind of numb because I was afraid for my children.
‘I was afraid how my two grown children would take the news and they were very upset. And then I went through a period where I thought I wasn’t going to be attractive to my fiance.’
Janice discovered that she had the illness in March and admits that it came after months of feeling a little out of sorts.
‘For the nine months previous I wasn’t feeling like the [usual] me, something was off inside my psyche,’ she told presenters Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes via live link from the US.
‘I went to my doctors and I asked her to do a series of tests. I asked her to do a manual breast examination and she found a lump…she said “something doesn’t feel right”.
‘So I went through a battery of tests… and it’s for this reason that I appear in front of you today to share my experience.
‘I implore all women to go get their breast examined and do it themselves.’
Janice then went through six weeks of radiation, something she described as ‘very harrowing’, but is now cancer-free and keen to encourage awareness about the disease.
She also revealed that she rediscovered herself after her dark ordeal by trying to focus her energies on others.
‘I found Janice again by really talking to people [during treatments] and asking about their day,’ Janice revealed. ‘I’d make them healthy biscuits… trying to be of service to people that have far worse afflictions.
‘That’s how I found my light at the tunnel and I just want to keep going. It’s not the end, I’m not out the door yet.’
And on a lighter note, the former Celebrity Big Brother star is hoping her old friend Christopher Biggins – who she met in the I’m A Celebrity jungle – triumphs in the latest series of the show.
Janice said: ‘I heard my buddy Biggins is in it. Biggins to win! Biggins to win!
‘I have to say, we had our ups and downs [in the jungle] and I have to tell you Biggins is a national treasure.’
