Why Jay McGuiness is the nicest person on Strictly Come Dancing...
Since his arrival on Strictly Come Dancing, shaggy-haired Jay McGuiness has won hearts and competition points in equal measure. Proving that he’s more than his trademark locks, Jay McGuiness went under the chop for last week’s episode, sacrificing seven whole inches of hair. But this was more than just a brave new look – Jay later revealed on his Instagram account that he will be donating the hair to the Little Princess Trust, a charity for children who have experienced hair loss due to cancer or alopecia. As if we didn’t love him enough already! Here are seven more reasons why we think he’s the bee’s knees:
He has a great relationship with his mum
Speaking to the Newark Advertiser, Jay’s mum Maureen McGuiness praised her son’s efforts on the show: ‘He is working really hard and training a lot.’ Meanwhile, Jay tweeted in praise of his mum, who encouraged him to enjoy some TLC during her visit: ‘Mum’s in town update number 2…I told her I was aching and am currently having a bath at 9:30am.’
He bigs up his twin brother
Sibling rivalry? Not for Jay, who has nothing but praise for his twin brother, who, as he told Strictly, knows everything about him. On the pair’s birthday, he tweeted: ‘Yes, my brother is extremely handsome. I’m used to it. Have a great birthday night Thomas. X.’ Aww! We think you’re both gorgeous, Jay!
He has a hidden sex appeal
Jay might have, according to partner Aliona, struggled to master the ‘sexy bits’ of his routine during his initial rehearsals – but he certainly managed to bring it out the bag on stage. Following Jay’s performance last weekend, judge Darcey Bussell couldn’t resist gushing: ‘You are the coolest guy in this competition and I don’t know how you bring a jive to [have] so much sex appeal.’
He’s a true gent
Despite speculation about their being chemistry between Jay and his gorgeous dance partner Aliona Vilani, Jay is adamant he won’t fall under the ‘Strictly curse’ of romantic liaisons with the married lady. ‘It’s a dance show, not a dating show,’ he told The Sun on Sunday. Proving that he is far from a love rat, Jay went on to speak in praise of Aliona’s husband: ‘[She] is happy married to an Irish fellow who I think is a legend.’ What a respectful guy!
We think Jay is one of the most modest Strictly contestants ever. Asked about his strengths during a Radio Times interview, the star insisted ‘My secret weapon is Aliona.’ He also rated his ‘danceability’ at just 5 out of 10. But the Strictly judges have other ideas, because…
He’s a 10/10
Jay and Aliona wowed the judges last Saturday during week 3 of Strictly with their Pulp Fiction-inspired dance routine. The pair scored a perfect 10 from Bruno Tonioli, the first of the series. The rest of the scores were pretty impressive too: three 9s, adding up to a whopping total of 37 points.
He’s not afraid to make a fool of himself
It looks like Jay’s ability to shock and amaze goes beyond the Strictly dancefloor. The former Wanted band member celebrated turning 25th in a totally unorthodox way… ‘This morning I did a Pirate-themed naked dance for my birthday,’ he posted on his Instagram. We love it!
