Singer upset while recording charity song

Oritse Williams has revealed some of his relatives were killed in Haiti.

About 200,000 are thought to have died following an earthquake on 12 January.

‘Unfortunately, I lost some family in Haiti myself,’ says the JLS singer, 23.

‘I was with some of my Haitian family in Canada at Christmas and they lost people very close to them.

‘I’ve been speaking to my cousins every day and getting updates, praying and hoping they’ll find more people.’

JLS have lent their vocals to Simon Cowell‘s charity cover of REM‘s Everybody Hurts.

‘I tried to smile but it was very emotional for me to record in the studio,’ Oritse tells the Daily Record.

Meanwhile, Quincy Jones has gathered an all-star line-up to sing charity single We Are The World.

The track, likely to feature Jennifer Hudson, Will Smith and Sheryl Crow, will be recorded in LA on Monday.

The original song, to raise money for African famine relief, featured Michael Jackson, Lionel Richie, Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross, Bruce Springsteen and Bob Dylan.
