Super-toned X Factor finalist Fleur East tells Now how she keeps in shape and reveals her guilty food pleasure
She’s the breakout star of this year’s X Factor, with her rendition of Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars‘ Uptown Funk storming the iTunes chart. Aside from her mahoosive singing voice, Fleur‘s also become a poster girl for washboard abs.
We sat down with Fleur to ask her about her health regime. She tells us that on a typical day, she’ll eat cereal and fruit, with a protein rich lunch and dinner of either chicken or grilled fish. It didn’t take us long to get to the important stuff, though – that six pack!
Now: Do you work out a lot?
Fleur: I go to the gym five times a week and work out for an hour and a half. I do classes as well, like spin and body conditioning. It’s boring if you do the same things all the time.
What exercise do you do specifically to get those abs?
I do crunches, but not many. Running on the treadmill is amazing – you’re using your abs all the time. I mix it up with weights as well – squats with a bar with weights on and the leg-press machine. Weights workouts burn a lot more fat than just cardio.
What’s your fave body part?
My stomach – you could’ve probably guessed that! I’ve worked hard at it. I’d hate it if someone said ‘Oh, I don’t know. I’m just naturally like this.’ I haven’t got an athletic build. If I didn’t go to the gym, I wouldn’t look anything like this. I love my food as well – I don’t believe in diets.
What’s your guilty food pleasure?
My favourite dessert is banoffee pie. If I ever go to a restaurant, I’ll definitely have it! I’ll allow myself treats maybe once a week.
Who’s your celeb body idol?
Mel B. The other week, she said to me: ‘Your abs look great.’ So for me, that’s the seal of approval. She’s had kids and her body looks like that!
