As the ex-EastEnder battles septicaemia, her nose looks painful and corroded
Appearing on This Morning earlier this month, Danniella Westbrook had a plaster beneath her nose. And Now can reveal the dressing was covering a gaping hole below her left nostril.
In pictures seen by Now, the star was caught outside a London hospital with the shock hole exposed.
The collapse of the 43-year-old’s nose in 2000 was well documented, along with her cocaine abuse. But following pioneering surgery, which involved an implant of shark cells to rebuild her nose, Danniella was thought to be in a good place.
She admitting to a relapse in 2014, explaining: ‘I do need help. I don’t have a choice. I will always be an addict and I’m never going to be able to take drugs recreationally.’
A source close to the ex-EastEnders actress tells Now: ‘Danniella’s previous cocaine abuse meant she had to have a load of surgery. She even lost three teeth, as well as others crumbling, because of her habit. The new hole in her nose has come about following dental work, where she had implants fitted.
‘They had to attach the teeth to bolts in her gums, but bolt three, which is under her left nostril, had to be implanted higher into the bone as that’s where it’s thinnest, and then she got an infection there.’
Just last week, Danniella confessed the infection has left her very unwell, saying: ‘I had all my top teeth out and implants put in on screw. It started to swell and it gave me septicaemia that went through here in the roof of my mouth. All the gum here’s gone.’
Danniella also revealed that despite being clean for some time she’d relapsed again, explaining that she hadn’t used cocaine but had taken pills after splitting with boyfriend George Arnold, 24. She said: ‘I tried to overdose a lot when George walked out.’
As these horrifying pictures show, years of drug abuse and subsequent surgery has taken its toll on Danniella. Our source adds: ‘The hole under her nostril is usually dressed. She’s hoping the skin will grow back. She’s having bone grafts so her cheeks don’t cave in. It’s very sad, but she’s trying her best to get on with her life and stay smiling.’
