The TV presenter was blasted for being ‘racist’ after claiming the boxing legend ‘said more racist things’ than Donald Trump
The Good Morning Britain presenter exchanged jibes with the couple earlier this morning after he claimed over the weekend that Muhammad Ali, who passed away on Friday after a three decade battle with Parkinson’s, ‘said more racist things’ than Donald Trump.
‘Muhammad Ali said far more inflammatory/racist things about white people than Donald Trump ever has about Muslims. Fact,’ he tweeted on Sunday.
After receiving some hate from Twitter, Piers later wrote: ‘I hope people don’t make me sound too perfect when I die. No coats of sugar please.’
John Legend picked up on the tweet and couldn’t resist responding with: ‘you could test us by announcing your retirement.’
But before Piers could reply with his usual witty remark, John’s wife, Sports Illustrated model, Chrissy Teigen replied: ‘from what? trolling isn’t a job (I’ve tried).’
Continuing their spat this morning, Piers napped back at Chrissy: ‘Maybe I should take up a proper job, like modelling?’Piers Morgan and Chrissy Teigen
To which she replied: ‘it keeps me nice and not-racist so sure, give it a go.’
Insisting neither was he, Piers replied: ‘I’m not racist either, so that makes two of us.’
On Good Morning Britain this morning, Piers appeared to try and justify his comments.
Speaking to barrister Miranda Brawn, he said: ‘There was another side to Ali, he was incredibly controversial.’
Piers continued: ‘His preferred world is segregregated. Black people living with black people, white people living with white people.’
He then added that some of Ali’s comments about race relations would receive ‘an incredibly different reaction’ if they were said now.
RIP Muhammad ‘The Greatest’ Ali
