The relationship between Rebecca and her estranged husband might not be what you'd expect
Rebecca Adlington has spoken for the first time on her marriage break-up with some very honest revelations.
The swimmer might have called time on her relationship with husband Harry Needs but she’s on surprisingly good terms with him – in fact she’s even called him her ‘best friend’.
Rebecca, 27, and Harry, 24, remain incredibly close and are clearly committed to raising their baby daughter Summer together despite their break-up.
‘We are still very much best friends,’ Rebecca says of her estranged husband.
‘And it’s not like we’re not talking, because we are – we talk all the time. We are both just working hard on trying to be good parents, and our total focus is on our daughter.’
It sounds like the the Olympian and Harry – who is also a swimmer – will continue to take their little girl to the pool together too.
‘We are both so sporty so we take her swimming, and I would be very surprised if Summer doesn’t grow up to be very sporty and active,’ Rebecca tells the Irish Mirror.
‘She’s only nine months old but her personality is coming out – she’s already so independent, and knows exactly what she wants to do… so she’s a bit like me.’
So Rebecca and Harry are obviously on admirably good terms since confirming their separation in March, so much so that they both happily attended the wedding of Rebecca’s sister over the weekend.
They also continue to follow each other on social media and Rebecca even posted a birthday message for her former spouse on Instagram last week.
The couple had stressed that they intended to stay close when they revealed their split in March, having said in a statement posted on Rebecca’s website:
‘It’s after much thought and sadness that we confirm our separation. It is on amicable terms and we still remain close friends.
‘We move forward with respect for one another and our focus and commitment is on parenting our gorgeous daughter Summer.
‘This will be our only comment on this private matter.’
