Swimming star Rebecca Adlington and husband Harry Needs have chosen a thoughtful moniker for their little girl
Rebecca Adlington has finally revealed what she’s called her baby – and it’s SO adorable!
The Olympic swimming star welcomed her first child, a daughter, with husband Harry Needs two weeks ago and they’ve decided to call her Summer for several cute reasons.
‘When we realised Becky had won her medals in summer, that we got married in summer, and that our baby was born in summer, it made perfect sense to name her after our favourite time of year,’ new dad Harry says. Aww!
The couple are right – summer has always been a great season for them. It was last year that Rebecca, 26, tied the knot with Harry, whilst back in 2012 she won two bronze medals at the London Olympics. She also scooped a gold at the Beijing Olympics in the summer of 2008.
Rebecca admits that bringing Summer into the world was tougher than her sporting feats though.
‘Giving birth was definitely harder than winning those gold medals,’ she says.
The Olympian had planned to deliver her daughter in a birthing pool but had to get out during the labour due to complications, meaning that it was a tough but wonderful experience.
‘It was the most painful thing I have ever done but also the most rewarding,’ Rebecca tells Hello!
‘Winning medals doesn’t really make a difference to real life but bringing a new child into the world is without a doubt our greatest achievement.’
Rebecca – who had previously said she’d hoped to get back to work just two months after giving birth – is hoping that Summer will follow in her athletic footsteps one day.
‘I really would love her to get into the world of sport,’ the new mum admits. ‘But I’m not bothered if it’s not swimming.
‘I just feel sport gives you so much more in life. My sport taught me everything that I am today, be dedicated and driven, committed, and you get to travel the world and meet amazing people!’
