Shannen Doherty - who found fame as part of the original cast of 90s TV show Beverly Hills 90210 - has revealed she has breast cancer
Actress Shannen Doherty has revealed she is battling breast cancer.
The 44-year-old star of TV show Charmed confirmed the news in a statement, and thanked her fans for their support.
‘Yes, I have breast cancer, and I am currently undergoing treatment,’ the actress said in a statement to People magazine.
She added: ‘I am continuing to eat right, exercise and stay very positive about my life.
‘I am thankful to my family, friends and doctors for their support and, of course, my fans who have stood by me.’
The actress – who first found fame as part of the cast of 90s TV show Beverly Hills 90210 – only confirmed the news after legal documents linked to her illness surfaced on celeb gossip site TMZ.
The documents reveal that Shannen is suing her former management firm, Tanner Mainstain, for failing to pay her insurance premiums, allegedly leaving her without access to medical treatment when her cancer was first diagnosed in 2014.
The papers also claim: ‘Plaintiff [Doherty] was also informed that, had she been insured and able to visit her doctor, the cancer could potentially have been stopped, thus obviating the need for future treatment (including mastectomy and chemotherapy) that Plaintiff will likely have to suffer through now.’
Responding to the claims in a statement, the firm said: ‘Tanner Mainstain is saddened to learn that Ms. Doherty is suffering from cancer and wishes her a full recovery.
‘However, the claim that Tanner Mainstain caused her to be uninsured, prevented her from seeking medical care, or somehow contributed to her cancer is patently false.’
Whatever the situation, we wish Shannen a speedy recovery.
