The singer was about to try his luck internationally

Matt Cardle was ready to leave the UK in a quest for success, had his X Factor win not happened.

The talented singer was still living at home, getting up at lunchtime, sitting for hours watching The Simpsons or at skate parks, and evenings in the pub or performing with his band, Seven Summers.

‘I knew I was in a black hole. I’d see my mates leave uni, get jobs, get married. I was still being told to clean up my room by my mum,’ Matt reveals.

‘Before The X Factor I was looking at going abroad.

‘This came just at the right time. I would have changed my tactic otherwise.’

Matt, 27, fancied heading East.

‘I was going to do a snowboard season, play in a bar. And my dad has friends in China, so I was going to play there,’ he explains.

‘I guess I’d resisted X Factor because I write songs, love Rage Against The Machine and Nirvana. But thank God I took that shot.’
