See how the singer's transformed her look over the years

Madonna really is the queen of transformations.

The singer is well-known for her ability to reinvent her appearance. From fresh-faced student to 80s style icon and glamorous mum-of-four, our gallery charts Madonna’s evolution over the years.

As our first picture shows, Madonna – born Madonna Louise Ciccone on 16 August 1958 – sports brunette hair and an innocent smile during her communion in the 1960s.

At high school a decade later, the American singer and actress is still natural with dark tumbling curls.

But the star comes to fame in the early 1980s with a VERY different style. She rocks punky locks, heavy make-up and a now-trademark beauty spot above her lip.

In 1985 film Desperately Seeking Susan, Madonna creates one of her most recognisable looks with a red pout and a large bow in her moussed hair.

However, this all changes when she jets to London for the photocall of flick Shanghai Surprise in 1986 with a golden Marilyn Monroe-esque ‘do. In 1988, she reverts back to dark tresses.

Madonna switches between both blonde and brown coiffures over the next few decades.

She works crimped tendrils, victory rolls, poker-straight lengths, a sweeping side fringe, an eye-catching bob and a fringed wig, among many other styles.

But it’s not just her mane that changes – she’s also tried out plenty of different make-up trends.

Despite clearly favouring a red lip, Madonna also works orange hues and girlie glosses.

Tending to prefer just a sweep of mascara in the 1990s, she proves she’s still a rock chick at heart when she begins sporting edgy flicks of eyeliner in the late 00s.

She’s even been snapped totally slap-free.

Not afraid of shocking, Madonna’s decorated her mouth with both a gold tooth AND grills.
