We remember the flamboyant fashion designer

Born ‘Lee’ McQueen in London on 17 March 1969 – the son of a taxi driver – Alexander McQueen enjoyed making dresses for his 3 sisters and joked that he was the ‘pink sheep’ of the family.

In 1996, he becomes British Designer Of the Year at the LLoyds Bank British Fashion Awards. He goes on to win this award a further three times.

Alexander is appointed head designer at Givenchy, succeeding John Galliano.
