Designer speaks out about the honour of being chosen for Kate's big day
The long-awaited designer of the Wedding Dress Of The Century has been revealed
Designed by Sarah Burton of McQueen, the long-sleeved dress was the perfect gown for the state occasion.
‘It has been the experience of a lifetime to work with Catherine Middleton to create her wedding dress,’ says Sarah in a statement, ‘and I have enjoyed every moment of it.
‘It was such an incredible honour to be asked, and I am so proud of what we and the Alexander McQueen team have created.
‘I am delighted that the dress represents the best of British craftsmanship.
‘Alexander McQueen‘s designs are all about bringing contrasts together to create startling and beautiful clothes and I hope that by marrying traditional fabrics and lacework, with a modern structure and design we have created a beautiful dress for Catherine on her wedding day.’
The strapless gown, featuring a lace-covered bodice, fitted Kate‘s enviable figure beautifully.
The shape of the flared full skirt – with a 9ft train – echoed an opening flower, with white satin gazar arches and pleats.
Kate‘s Cartier tiara was a gift from the Duke Of York in 1936 to the Queen on her 18th birthday.
Her sparkly diamond drop earrings were by Robinson Pelham, a boutique jeweller in London.
As Paula Reed the BBC’s Royal Correspondent said: It was such a fashion moment’ – which really sums it up.
